Following the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, there is an on-going obligation by public accommodation buildings and businesses (retail, banks, restaurants, hotels, etc.) and public entities to provide and maintain accessible facilities.
In addition to the American Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design (ADASAD), many states have adopted their own set of standards which, often enough, do not match the requirements of the ADASAD.
